Parents Can Take Action
You can help bring kids back to milk. Seven out of 10 girls and six out of 10 boys in elementary school (ages 6-11) don't meet calcium requirements. Here are some things you can do:
- Ask your child's school nutrition director or principal if this New Look of School Milk in plastic bottles and flavors is available on your school menu
- Print this sample letter to send to your school about the importance of offering students new milk options
- Learn more about your school district's nutrition wellness policy to make sure nutrient-rich dairy is included
- Attend school board and PTA meetings to discuss why milk and other healthy, appealing menu options are important
- Ask your school about adding the cool new milk bottles to the vending machines
Also, learn about another benefit of offering milk in plastic bottles - recycling.
