Help! My fridge needs a makeover!
By Stefania Pomponi Butler
Meet my fridge.
As you can see the condiments have taken over. Are four kinds of olives absolutely necessary? Yes. Three kinds of hot sauce essential? Sure. Five kinds of mustard needed at any given time? Of course! I’m sure there’s some healthy food in there. Somewhere. Maybe behind the two bottles of ketchup?
Can you relate?
I don’t know what happened. Why have the pickles and sauces pushed out the real food? I know it’s in there, but it should be a lot easier for me — and more importantly, my kids — to find. If only you could see my deli drawer. Honest, I really do own some cheese!
We eat tons of plain yogurt, so I buy that by the vat. I like to select my fruit and veggies from the farmer’s market on Sundays, but by the end of the week there’s slim pickin’s in that department. When I’m hunting for healthy snacks and all I can find are pickles and tomato paste, I know I have a problem.
Right now my refrigerator looks heavy on salty and sugary stuff, and way too light on nutrition. Healthy food has taken a backseat to all those jars and bottles, and that’s got to change.
My family’s health depends on it! So I’m beginning to wonder:
